Como Park Oval

Located in the City of Stonnington VIC, next to the Yarra River and near the historic Como house, Como Park is famous for its vast, sloping lawns, Art Deco Club Room and scenic views.

Como Park's facilities include a football and cricket (two turf cricket wickets and three turf practice wickets) sports oval with floodlights, BBQ area, basketball half court, playground, outdoor exercise equipment, bike path and a dog park.

Turf Care and Hire won this contract for the City of Stonnington Council and engaged HG Turf Group to supply and install Sand-based Santa Ana Maxi Rolls. The sand product met the drainage specification outlined in the contract and the usage requirements - the ground is used for both community sport and recreation.

The biggest challenge facing this site was the unique location and difficult access to the site. Three to four semi-trailers per day for a week required access from busy Williams Street. A 4:00am commencement time each day helped to achieve this access.

Como Park and surrounds holds much historical significance within the municipality.

Careful planning and consultation with our client, Turf Care and Hire was required during every step of the project, from the choice of HG Turf Group's Sand-based Santa Ana product to the meticulous traffic management plan to minimise disruption. It was this attention to detail that ensured a solution that met both the client and, ultimately, the end-user needs.

HG Turf Group's Sand-based Santa Ana Maxi Rolls provided a sand product of premium quality that met the client's drainage specifications. The sand profile of the HG Turf Group farm draining at the rate: Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity (@32 drops of 150mm) is 200mm/hr.

The Maxi rolls were installed using a Magnum Machine installer and rolled with a 2m wide Mentay roller.
